Vancouver Whitecaps supporters had to give the Cascadia Cup away to the Timbers Army after Portland secured a 1-1 draw in Seattle. Just four days later, Vancouver got their revenge, dismantling Portland in the wild card game. The Timbers were the lower seed but they were gifted a home game due to conflicting events at Vancouver’s BC Place.

Ryan Gauld headed in a rebound off a corner in the 20th minute, putting Vancouver up 1-0. Brian White added to the lead just four minutes later before Gauld scored his second in the 31st, and the Timbers found themselves down 3-0 just over a half hour in, and that would be the score at halftime.

Things didn’t get any better in the second half as Armstrong headed in a cross for Vancouver’s fourth goal in the 51st minute and Gauld scored to make it 5-0 in the 59th minute to complete his hat trick. The game would finish 5-0 and the Timbers season came to a shocking end at home.
